now that all the snow has melted, i'm defaulting to the trusty Marant boots again. a long day of running around the city last week reminded me that these are still the most comfortable midheel shoes for people who actually take the subway and need to walk from point A to point B. as for the rest – Marant scarf, favorite leather jacket, indigo skinnies, mini crossbody – they have certainly proven their mettle as all-time best buys.
what are your best buys?
ditto with the boots! couldn't agree more. Every time I wear them and come back home to take them off, I'm always reminded of how fantastic they are.
ReplyDeleteCurrent best buys? St.James meridien tee, and this burgundy/leather Madewell varsity jacket, just to name a few ... There's quite a lot of good buys that are now my go-to's, and it makes me super giddy, hehehe.

Love your jacket on you! (Although it does look weirdly super short and cropped on the model, she must be a 6 ft tall glamazon or something). And you've just reminded me that I can pull out my dv Jamisons as well. Sometimes it takes me a while to switch gears when the seasons start changing, I'm still running around in my winter boots and coats!

oh i'm wearing a black down vest over the jacket in this photo - but no it's not super short. super tall models always mess up the proportion of things, eh? :)
DeleteAhh we just got another big snowfall here in Montreal, so I'm stuck with my boots for a couple more weeks. I wished I could wear my tan suede booties out, too.
ReplyDeleteYour Marant skirt is really nice -- it reminds me of the Hudson Bay stripes!
My best buy is probably my Coach Court bag that I got 2 months ago. It goes with everything, I love it. I also just acquired a pair of vintage Ferragamo Vara and waiting for them in the mail. I'm sure they will quickly become a favourite.
I was just thinking today (while walking in the freezing wind) that my best buy of 2012 was probably a Spiewak parka that I got on clearance for under $30. Yes, it's a puffy nylon thing, but it's been a lifesaver for my first real winter.
ReplyDeleteholy smokes! that is an amazing sale find - you know how i love my spiewak parka :)
DeleteAh the perfect essentials! I am still regretting selling my dicker boots... oh well, plenty of those floating around I suppose. For me, my essentials are my crossbody bag, well-cut black blazer, indigo skinny jeans and black layered singlet
ReplyDeleteWhat a perfect outfit. I love the scarf. I'm not sure what my February essentials are but the furry Trapper hat has paid it's way - I wore it in sleeting snow last week and the following day, I wore Converse - how's that for extremes?
ReplyDeleteMy most recent best buys are my Coach Farah wedge boots. They're the perfect height, comfortable and they look good with every outfit I put together. Another good buy is my olive green military coat from Zara. It's surprisingly warm and I can layer underneath without feeling bulky.
ReplyDeleteOh gosh, my vintage Woolrich Arctic parka for sure. I don't think I would've survived the past couple of weeks without it.
ReplyDeleteAnd also: Steven Alan silk boyfriend shirt (in navy), black Church's Burwood Brogues, black Makr farm rucksack, and burgundy Columbiaknit beanie.
Nice outfit, just the right amount of comfy but put together. Best buys in the recent past are a Sissi Rossi safety pin tote and an ipad mini (does that count?). I've been so lazy with dressing well lately..
ReplyDeleteLove all your workhorses! When you said best buys, too many things came to mind and I suppose that's a happy problem! More recently, I think my green cotton parka from Diesel proved its mettle when I was in NZ - it stood up against wind and rain reasonably well, and it had all these huge pockets so I didn't even need a bag, and it of course looked great :) I'm very sad that a hole has sprung on my suede chukka boots...they were the perfect shape and I think they'd be hard to replace!
ReplyDeleteI love your walking-around-the-city outfit!
ReplyDeleteMy winter workhorse has been my Theory tweed-and-leather combo jacket I found on super sale at TJMaxx. It can be dressed up or down, and the cropped length makes it perfect to throw on over lighter layers.
I love this outfit and your leather jacket is looking better than ever.
ReplyDeleteI've gotten amazing wear out of my black vest (j.crew I think its the "excursion vest") and Citizens of Humanity black skinny jeans.
I'm very pleased with my Rachel Nasvik phoebe handbag too. Its sturdy but soft and its only getting better with age.
Love the outfit! My best buys include black equestrian style boots, a taupe silk knit cardigan, a grey cashmere cardigan and my classic trenchcoat, they are all staples in my wardrobe and get a lot of wear.
ReplyDeletelove the outfit!
ReplyDeleteI've been living in the puffer jacket I got for free and my big grey cashmere scarf I got it at a Barney's sale from 9years ago, pairing that with steven alan shirts, Inhabit sweater and coclico booties. Haven't given as much attention to the GG boots lately because the booties are so easy to pair and wear.
You finally got to me. Just bought a pair of Dickers in black suede. Barneys had a whole slew.
ReplyDeleteAnd my best buy of this winter were surely my Max Mara camel coat and a Duluth backpack.
hooray! looking forward to seeing them on your blog :)
DeleteJ Crew dark rinse denim (2 years and essentially no fading); Land's End cashmere cardigan; Coach ballet flats; Clare Vivier messenger bag; Hermes scarves.
ReplyDeleteAll my Everlane cashmere (sweaters, burgundy stole), J. Crew cords, and ankle boots from Dieppo R. and Isabel Marant!
ReplyDeleteI know, the Dickers! I immediately bring mine out when the snow has melted. Other than that my best buys right right now would be denim skinnies, Vanessa Bruno Athé chunky knit cardigan and my Isabel Marant coat, worn with a thin down jacket underneath when it's freezing!
