essentials: PS1 and polka dots

equipment silk shirt // uniqlo jeans // old gap belt // simple everyday necklace //

my November and early December essentials have centered around patterns and textures. lately i've been in the mood for tucked-in blouses and a skinny patent belt for a pop of color. taking my PS1 everywhere these days. the suede has reached a sort of broken-in nirvana place where it's both somewhat softened yet still structured (see my detailed review here). who knew that a suede bag would become such a seamless part of my wardrobe?

what do you think? what are your essentials these days?

  1. your ps1 looks beautiful! definitely a good purchase.

these days, i wear a lot of stripes and lots of polka dots too, as well as thin knits. unfortunately, i have to wear my winter coat and winter boots so i have limitations.

  2. your bag looks fabulous. it seems very practical and versatile in terms of size, color and wearability.

on an unrelated note - which uniqlo jeans are you wearing, and how is the sizing? i've been interested in getting a pair, but must order online without trying on. any tips?

    1. thanks LN! i find uniqlo jeans to run true to size. i got mine last year - i think they were called legging jeans. they're a stretchy lighterweight jean.

My essentials at the moment are my wool dresses from Bi La Li and DVF, soft wool cardigans from Whistles and Pringle, Fogal merino tights, Kain tees and skinny Levi's, Chloe ballet flats, Miu Miu brogues, Belstaff ankle boots and my black Alexander Wang Daria with gunmetal hardware.

    2. Ha! This is how I dress in Delhi - when I am in the field, it's all about jeans, sneakers and loose tunics - decidedly a triumph of low-maintenance comfort over style.

Re: the DVF bag, the company dropped the ball a bit on this one - lost my order, the bag sold out, but then they tracked it down at their NYC store and it's finally on its way to me. Fingers crossed!

Yes, after the initial mistake, for which they apologised profusely, they have stepped it up, which I appreciate.

  4. I've moved jobs recently from an industrial plant that requires a (rather unattractive) uniform to a corporate setting. I've practically had to rebuild my wardrobe from scratch and the following items have become my work essentials:
    - J. Crew Factory Winnie pant (I have this in 3 colors)
    - my assortment of blazers
    - pointy patent flats in black and nude which I've blogged about here http://dontaskmetosmile.wordpress.com/2012/09/27/a-first-a-shoe-review/
    - silk shirts from Joe Fresh (I can't afford Equipment. :))
    - pointy heels in black and nude by Massimo Dutti
    - an assortment of sweaters in solid colors and stripes.
    - this J. Crew necklace: http://www.jcrew.com/womens_category/jewelry/sale/PRDOVR~50761/50761.jsp

I've recently cleaned out my closet of the stuff that no longer fit the way I want to dress. More and more, I've been feeling like I now have a better grasp of my personal style, and have had to get rid of the stuff I bought at the first flush of excitement about earning my own money.

Sorry about the long comment. I guess this is something I should probably blogging about, not unloading as a comment on your blog. :)

  5. I love what you've got on, Sophie. I like polka dots just as much as stripes. I'm with you about Uniqlo jeans. They're absolutely fabulous. And cheap! Your PS1 is divine. It's such an edgy bag but just as practical as it is good looking.

  7. I love this simple kind of look - it's a little reminiscent of what I'm actually wearing today! Great minds think alike I hear ;)

I like that your PS1 only has a little bit of slouch to it, not too much, and glad to hear that you are loving the bag! x

  9. Hello! I'm quite new to your blog but I'm hooked :) thanks for your refreshing and almost simplistic yet very well put together outfits and ideas.
I'm seriously considering getting the PS1 but I just got myself a mulberry alexa (the regret!!).... I'd love to read your review of the PS1, but when I click on the link in your post it says page not found? Do let me know your thought process and what made you cave! Have a great weekend ahead, cheers

  10. Hello.

I love your top. I was wondering how this style ran. I find that equipment tops run a little big, as to not be too fitted. I found this top the other day in my normal size, but it was previously owned, and it ran tighter than my other equipment tops. So, I wasn't sure if the one I purchased was slightly shrunk or if this top just ran smaller then the normal signature blouses. Thanks so much. :)
