summer dressing can be tricky – how do you stay cool while still looking stylish?
there are a few tried-and-true elements to summer in NYC for me: sleeveless as much as possible, easy silhouettes, and fabrics in cotton, linen, jersey, and silk. this season, i've teamed up with Everlane to bring you an exclusive preview of their new summer collection, launching tomorrow.
read on for my summer essentials!

2. the denim shirtdress // (wearing XS) there's a very studio-off-duty vibe to this dress that i love. i wasn't really sure what to expect – for years i've liked the idea of a shirtdress but it never worked on me. this just might be the first one i like that isn't too short or too shirt-like. the length is right, the side hem doesn't go up too high, and the side pockets make the dress...a great little tomboy detail.

3. the silk sleeveless blouse // (wearing S) honestly i think this is only way to wear silk in the summer. the collar keeps it refined for work (just throw on a thin cardigan or blazer for arctic offices), and you're just a statement necklace and button or two away from day to night. i like my silk blouses on the slouchier side, and the armholes on these in the S are nicely cut – airy, without being too low. fabric-wise these are a triple thumbs up; the silk is wonderfully luxe (unlike other inexpensive silks that are too thin, crease easily or feel like polyester).

4. the ryan tank // (wearing XS) i bought these in every color, wore them all through my Japan trip as a foundation layer, and will be wearing them all summer with everything. because many readers have emailed with questions on the fit / transparency of the jersey, i'm wearing it here with a black bra. as you can see, it's slouchy and lightweight without being sheer.
i hope this post is helpful for those of you who are considering these pieces! are you getting anything from the new collection? what are your summer essentials?

Love this! Silk blouses in the summer are a must...and these are really lovely.
ReplyDeleteIs the sleeveless poplin shirt you have the light or medium denim color? All of these look great--I think I'm finally going to take the Everlane silk plunge--just need to decide between slate or the light grey colors in the sleeveless version!
ReplyDeleteit's the medium denim! a very pretty shade of blue :)
DeleteIt's been kind of fascinating watching Everlane add items to their collection over the years. I first bought something from them when they just sold bags and a couple types of T-shirts. The dress and poplin shirt are especially cute in this set of releases. I'm not excited about the pleated shorts they're about to debut, but I'm sure that if they ever release a skirt or an oxford or a pant, I'd be on board.
ReplyDeleteindeed! i spent most of last summer wishing i had some nice sleeveless blouses. done and done :)
Delete(Oxford as in the shoe.)
ReplyDeleteI absolutely LOVE that last outfit. Such a gorgeous skirt!
ReplyDeleteWait, also, I just noticed--do you have the Petra bag in clay now too? Any chance you'll do a more detailed post--there aren't enough photos/reviews of the Petra in none-black colors around!
ReplyDeletehey ming - i'll try! the color is pretty true in my photo above. size-wise it's great for running around the city and it's a lovely light neutral :)
DeleteHow fabulous! I wish they shipped to nepal :)
ReplyDeleteLove outfit #2 in particular, the dress is perfection and I love your accessories.
Ammu, i believe you can use a US forwarding service that handles int'l shipping. :)
Deletewonderful post! although my body does not agree with everlane sizing - S is just a tad too small and M is way too big :(
ReplyDeleteVery cool! I really like my Ryan tank and will probably get a couple more in different colors sometime soon. The shirtdress looks great on you!
ReplyDeleteI love all of these outfits - and second the person who said she loves the linen skirt. I especially like the denim dress too -- like you I have tried many denim dresses with high hopes but have never felt any of them worked on me. Either they were all too short, or the cut or fabric were not quite right. So I'm heartened to hear that you feel the Everlane dress works! If I were not currently pregnant I'd definitely try it -- maybe next year! Right now my budget is going toward some good maternity jeans!
ReplyDeleteI was so bummed that despite having signed up for the notification list, the navy shirt dress was already sold out in extra small this morning :(. I hope they restock it! Great post, by the way. I'm a first time commenter and love, love your blog. I just recently lost 40 pounds and am having a great deal of fun building a wardrobe I love from the bottom up. My nude bisque varas arrived today and I have quite a few everlane products I love as well.
ReplyDeletehi there! thanks for commenting and so glad to have you as a reader :) my varas are def my favorite sale find of the year. isn't the bisque color so pretty?
DeleteYes, the bisque is beautiful! I am hoping to add black and red to my collection. They are so, so comfortable and versatile. Just wondering--do you give your varas the vibram sole treatment too? By the way, everlane restocked the xs navy shirt dress and I got mine and love it :)
DeleteHello! Do you mind sharing how tall you are? I love how the Everlane dress looks on you and am hoping we are the same height as I wear the same sizing you do.
ReplyDeletehi! i'm 5'4 and i think the length of the XS on me is perfect. let me know if you get a dress! :)
DeleteEverything looks seriously perfect here. I just wish Everlane shipped to the UK that's all. And though it's nothing to do with a summer wardrobe - have you ever thought about the trench? That's the piece that I am really interested in.
ReplyDeletethanks Sue - you're so sweet :) re int'l shipping you can always use a forwarding service. stay tuned on the trench - though i feel like we've already jumped from winter to summer here :P
DeleteI found the armholes on the silk to be outrageously lowcut and loose. Are the poplin/denim sleeveless blouses more tailored?
ReplyDeletethe poplin/denim shirts do have a more tailored armhole compared to the silk (though i don't find the silk sleeveless to be that low cut, compared to my equipment blouses in a similar style). hope that helps :)
DeleteWe're nowhere near summer but stores are filled with imo awful colorful skimpy things that are supposedly in fashion for next season. I much prefer your quiet selection of basics to stay chic and cool! It's so surprisingly difficult to find well cut tanks and tops and I really like the way you teamed the one with your printed linen skirt!
ReplyDeletethis is so true, Aissa. it's so nice to have favorite basics on rotation.
DeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteI'm waiting for the Petra in Navy to be restocked. Since you have the Petra bag in both Magazine and Market, which do you think is the better size for an everyday / casual / work bag? I haven't been able to make up my mind all this while!
Thanks!
both sizes can fit a laptop, so it just depends on if you tend to also carry more extras (ie: gym stuff, change of shoes, etc). i prefer the market as a work bag just because i like the bot of extra space :)
DeleteYou look lovely and I did really like their silk. Unfortunately their Ryan tshirts fell apart on me in just several washes, a series of small holes! I think I would have been less disappointed if I didn't see so many bloggers talking about Everlane in a positive light without once mentioning any quality issues. Have you not had any? Because it's more than just on Ryan shirt for me. I had expected that if I liked the fit I'd make Everlane ts my mainstay but a. the black vneck muted color was not appropriate for any somewhat dressy occasion and b. the Ryans which I liked so much appear lousy quality and prone to holes.
ReplyDelete-Victoria
thanks for commenting, Victoria! i have not had any issues with my tees or ryan tanks and i've washed and line dryed my tanks for months now. you should def email everlane directly with this. they're good with quick responses to customer issues!
DeleteLove everything except the sleeveless poplin--I just don't care for the cut at all. Love that shirt dress and the sleeveless silk. Thanks for the review!
ReplyDeleteEach piece looks really good. It's been a while since I've bought anything from Everlane.
ReplyDeleteHow does the everlane leather hold up? Considering the wallet but worried it will her beat up looking pretty quick.
ReplyDeletehey Julie- my petra bags have held up nicely so far and it's been half a year.
Deletefor wallets though i prefer splurging a bit more on CdG. i think i'll do a post on that soon so stay tuned :)
I've ordered and returned the CdG wallet 3 times. Maybe it's the quilted leather that isn't my thing. I have the large pouch in the smooth leather. Maybe I need to try that wallet. Just wonder how it will hold up in the smooth leather.
